BIGfish client Beaver Country Day School hopes to return to SXSWedu 2018 next March, but needs help from the community to get there.
The independent school for grades 6-12 is already a veteran at SXSWedu; Beaver presented for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015 on their pioneering “Coded Curriculum,” as well as SXSWedu 2017 where they presented on the powering of unlearning. Beaver is hoping to return again next March, this year the focus is on the importance of professional development.
As an inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary collaborative institution, Beaver believes teachers should have an active part in designing and carrying out their professional development in order to make it truly invaluable. Taking a “practice what you preach” approach, representatives from Beaver will share the importance of mirroring professional development to what students experience in the classroom. Beaver’s proposed panel will highlight the importance of collaboration between teachers (and students) across grades and disciplines, with the goal of helping teachers see professional development as a place where they brainstorm, lead and design their learning experience.
Beaver is excited about the opportunity to return to SXSWedu, but since votes from the public count for 30% of programming selection, they need the community’s help! Voting is open through August 25 on the SXSWedu PanelPicker. To vote for Beaver, simply create a free account, log in and give their proposal a thumbs up.
