Here at BIGfish, there’s rarely a day that isn’t jam-packed with time-sensitive projects and an abundance of client work, but the fall season is especially busy. Our holiday gift guide pitching is in full swing, we’re busy gearing up for CES (more on that here), and coordinating three Taste of Iceland events that happen around the country, among a variety of other projects for all of our clients. Because we’re so busy, we heavily rely on our PR and copywriting interns to help out with some important projects – building media lists, writing pitches (and sending them, too!), publishing articles on Iceland Naturally and assisting with social media – just to name a few.
This fall, we were lucky enough to have two awesome interns join the team – Kelsey, our PR intern, and Erini, our crafty copywriter. Read more about their time at BIGfish below. If you want to be a BIGfish intern, send your resume & cover letter to interns@bigfishpr.com – we’re always looking for qualified individuals to join our talented team of tech PR professionals!
PR-Intern
Name: Kelsey Johnson
Hometown: Syracuse, NY
College: Emerson College
Major: Marketing Communications
Minors: Psychology
Favorite part of working at BIGfish: The team! The BIGfish team has such a great group dynamic and is open to whatever suggestions or ideas their interns have. The clients are also really interesting and fun to work with. There was never a boring day in the office!
Most valuable lesson learned while working at BIGfish: Great teamwork is crucial if you want to succeed as a PR firm. There are so many projects going on every day that it would be impossible to complete them and do them well without a great group dynamic and everyone putting in their fair share of work.
Advice to future BIGfish interns: There’s a lot of work to be done, but just make it a priority to organize your time and focus on doing your best and you’ll be fine! If you ever need help or are confused about something, don’t be afraid to ask.
Where you’d like to be in 5 years: I’d love to be working in a PR firm somewhere in Boston, NYC, or LA. I either see myself working with tech clients or consumer brands. The absolute dream though is to do PR for feature films! Hopefully someday I’ll get there!

Name: Erini Katopodis
Hometown: South Pasadena, CA
College: Emerson College
Major: Writing, Literature and Publishing
Minors: Music
Favorite part of working at BIGfish: The friendly staff, flexible scheduling, hands-on experience, and knowing that the work you publish has an audience! Really though, the office space is open and fun and staff members will always listen to new ideas and provide valuable feedback on whatever you give them.
Most valuable lesson learned while working at BIGfish: Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Whenever I read a source and wasn’t sure how to go about tackling the main part of the article, talking it out always helped generate new ideas and cleared up what the focus of a piece would be.
Advice to future BIGfish interns: Don’t be overwhelmed by the workload; time management is key when working remotely, and you can get a lot more done than you think in the 4+ hours a week you spend in the office. Also, don’t be afraid to add a personal touch to your work once you figure out the general tone/rhythm at BIGfish; it makes the work your own, and a lot more fun.
Where you’d like to be in 5 years: A travel writer bumping around from place to place (maybe in Iceland!)

BIG fish PR is an unconventional agency that helps its clients redefine their industries.
