BIGclient Beaver Country Day School hopes to return to SXSWedu 2021 with two topics that have dominated the news this year: racial inequity and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beaver’s first SXSWedu proposal, “Decolonizing Curriculum: Antiracist Education”, gives educators tools to help create anti-racist lesson plans and use practice-based teaching to expose students to all of history–not just some of it. The goal is to create a more equitable history curriculum representing all voices and cultures.

The second proposal from Beaver, “Performing Arts in the Time of COVID,” looks at how educators can use the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to teach students problem-solving skills in real-time. It also aims to challenge attendees to engage in unlearning in order to create meaningful experiences for students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beaver is excited about the opportunity to return to the SXSWedu stage, but since votes from the public count for 30% of programming selection, they need the community’s help to get there! To vote for both topics, simply create a free account at the panelpicker site, log in and give their proposal (linked here and here) and “up vote” by November 20th!
